AP Set to Introduce Advocates' Protection Bill
The minister directed officials to complete the drafting process at the earliest to enable the government to proceed with the legislative process without delay
VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh government has initiated the process of drafting the Andhra Pradesh Advocates' Protection Bill, 2026, with law and minority welfare minister N. Md. Farooq directing officials to expedite preparation of the legislation aimed at safeguarding advocates and strengthening their welfare.
In a statement issued from Amaravati on Wednesday, the minister instructed Law Secretary Pratibha Devi to prepare the draft Bill on priority and hold consultations with the departments concerned.
Farooq said the coalition government, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, was committed to ensuring the protection and welfare of advocates across the state.
He said the draft Bill would be examined by the advocate general and the finance department before being placed before the state Cabinet for approval. It will then be introduced in the Legislature.

Highlighting the government's commitment to the legal fraternity, Farooq said financial assistance of `46.92 crore had already been extended to the families of 1,173 deceased advocates, with `4 lakh provided to each bereaved family under the government's welfare scheme.
He said the proposed legislation reflected the government's resolve to provide institutional protection to advocates while strengthening measures for their welfare and security.
