AP Seeks Report on Suspicious Death of Tigers in NSTR

Vijayawada:The Andhra Pradesh government has constituted a high-level committee to investigate the suspicious deaths of tigers and recommend measures for strengthening wildlife conservation in the Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve.
Principal secretary to environment and forests, Kantilal Dande, issued GO-Rt-91 here on Monday to this effect.
The five-member committee comprises P. Mallikharjuna Rao, adviser to the government as chairman, Rahul Pandey, additional PCCF as member convener; B. Rajasekhar, landscape coordinator, WWF-India; Imran Siddiqui, senior field conservationist, Centre for Wildlife Studies, Bengaluru; and M. Naveen Kumar, a retired deputy director from Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad as members.
The panel has been asked to submit a factual report within 72 hours into the suspicious death of the tigers.
It has also been asked to examine and submit specific recommendations for long-term conservation strategies and the measures required to prevent a recurrence of tiger deaths, as also to strengthen tiger conservation and management in the NSTR within a period of two months.
The study would cover issues like strategies for effective protection, patrol and anti-poaching measures; action plan for strengthening HANUMAN; human-wildlife conflict mitigation measures; suggest blueprint for corridor conservation and scientific monitoring; propose methods of strengthening tiger conservation and management aspects etc.
