Andhra Pradesh is set to emerge as the third largest digital landing hub in the country with tech giants Google and Microsoft ready to partner in laying of deep sea internet cables.
Google would establish a cable landing station and AI Facility at Vizag. Google is planning to build an international subsea cable landing station (CLS) in Vizag, as part of its America–India Connect initiative and a massive $15 billion gigawatt-scale AI data center campus.
With partnership of Microsoft, Lightstorm and SingTel, Google is making arrangements to lay I-2SEA deep sea cable network for 3,600 km.
The cable would provide connectivity to Visakhapatnam with Singapore and East Asia. By 2029 end, the Microsoft-Lightstorm deep sea cable network would be made available for public utility.
Similarly, an inter-connecting digital fibre network would be developed in Machilipatnam-Hyderabad-Mumbai, Chennai-Hyderabad-Mumbai corridors. This would provide an opportunity for Visakhapatnam as international digital gateway.
Google is also planning to lay 'America-India Connect' sub-sea cable with Vizag as the hub.
According to information, the Google Centre in Visakha is planning to set up AI inferencing and cloud services rather than power-hungry AI models.
It is likely that Google is likely to use renewable electricity and air-cooling technology at the Visakha facility, as part of its environment-friendly measures.
