AP Sanctions ₹1.03-Crore Subsidy for Banana Exports From Anantapur

The subsidy will be paid on submission of the Interchangeable Wagon Bill (IWB) issued by CONCOR.

ANANTAPUR: Andhra Pradesh government has sanctioned ₹1.03 crore from its Price Stabilisation Fund as a one-time subsidy for the movement of refrigerated containers by rail to promote banana exports from Anantapur district.

The subsidy is intended to ensure regular exports from Tadipatri, a major banana-growing and trading centre in the Rayalaseema region. The Agriculture and Cooperation department issued G.O. 659 in this regard on Tuesday.

According to the order, the amount will be released through the Horticulture wing to provide logistics support to exporters transporting bananas in refrigerated containers by rail. The subsidy will be paid on submission of the Interchangeable Wagon Bill (IWB) issued by CONCOR.

The initiative is expected to reduce transportation and logistics costs for exporters and help maintain an uninterrupted export supply chain. Refrigerated rail transport is particularly important for perishable commodities, such as bananas. It helps preserve quality during the long-distance movement.

The government has instructed directors of Agricultural Marketing and Horticulture departments to implement the scheme. The Finance department has already accorded its concurrence to the proposal.

Officials said the subsidy would benefit banana growers and exporters in Anantapur district, where banana cultivation has expanded significantly in recent years. It would help strengthen the district's position as a major banana export hub.
