AP SACS Acts on Deccan Chronicle Report, Orders Probe Into False HIV Diagnosis

AP SACS project director Neelakanta Reddy directed to submit a detailed report by February 5, 2026

KURNOOL: Acting on a report published in Deccan Chronicle titled “Erroneous HIV test has couple in four-year trauma”, the Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (AP SACS) has ordered an inquiry against staff allegedly responsible for issuing an incorrect HIV-positive diagnosis despite the absence of the virus.

AP SACS project director Neelakanta Reddy said an investigation has been initiated and AP joint director (Care, Services and Treatment) Ankinidu Prasad has been appointed as the inquiry officer. He has been directed to submit a detailed report by February 5, 2026.

Clarifying aspects of the case, Reddy said there was no truth in the allegation that the child’s death occurred due to the mother being prevented from breastfeeding. He explained that even in the absence of HIV, certain conditions such as pregnancy and autoimmune disorders could occasionally result in false-positive test results.

He further said that after a complaint was received during a grievance redressal programme on March 11, 2025, fresh HIV tests were conducted on the woman at the Proddutur Government Hospital, which confirmed that she was HIV-negative.
