AP Rythu Sangham Demands Onion Price Hike To ₹20,000

Rythu Sangham leader Jagannatham stressed the need for a price stabilisation fund to protect cultivators across the state: Reports

KURNOOL: Members of AP Rythu Sangham, affiliated with the CITU, staged a protest at the Kurnool collectorate on Monday, demanding that the government raise the procurement price of onions to ₹20,000 per quintal instead of the announced ₹12,000.

In a protest to highlight their plight, farmers dumped onion stocks at the collectorate. The leaders said that farmers had invested heavily in onion cultivation this season but were now facing acute losses due to the low prices being offered in the market.

Rythu Sangham leader Jagannatham stressed the need for a price stabilisation fund to protect cultivators across the state. He pointed out that irrespective of the crop, farmers were consistently denied remunerative prices, pushing them into financial crisis.

He also criticised the government for failing to respond to repeated appeals from farmers. Warning of intensified agitation in the coming days, the leaders said their struggle would continue until the government announces concrete measures to safeguard farmers’ interests.
