AP Records 17,028 Accidental Deaths in 2024
Drowning emerged as one of the major causes of accidental deaths during 2024.

Tirupati:Men continued to bear the brunt of accidental deaths in Andhra Pradesh in 2024, accounting for nearly nine out of every 10 fatalities in the state.
This is revealed in the “Accidental deaths and suicides in India 2024” report released by the National Crime Records .
The data showed how people in AP lost their lives in traffic accidents, drowning incidents, electrocution, explosions and other preventable causes during the year.
It said, “The state recorded 17,028 accidental deaths in 2024 at a rate of 31.9 per one lakh population, lower than the national average of 33.3. Of the total victims, 14,402 were men, 2,622 were women and four transgender persons.
Out of the total fatalities, 16,841 deaths were caused by traffic accidents, drowning, accidental fires, falls, electrocution, poisoning, explosions and industrial incidents, while 187 deaths were linked to forces of nature.
Among neighbouring southern states, AP recorded more accidental deaths than Telangana (13,458) and Kerala (16,794). Karnataka and Tamil Nadu continued to report higher accidental deaths at 31,034 and 33,747 respectively.
Drowning emerged as one of the major causes of accidental deaths during 2024.
The state recorded 1,345 drowning incidents that claimed 1,403 lives. Of these, 1,253 deaths were due to accidental falls into water bodies. Among these victims were 1,113 men and 140 women.
Boat capsize incidents accounted for another 14 deaths, all of them men, while other drowning-related incidents claimed 136 lives, including 128 men and eight women. Overall, men accounted for 1,255 drowning deaths, while women 148 fatalities.
Electrocution was another major contributor to accidental deaths. The state recorded 901 incidents that caused 915 deaths and injured one person. Of the victims, 812 were men and 103 women.
The report also pointed to explosion-related deaths, with AP recording 32 explosion incidents that claimed 33 lives and injured one person. Women formed a majority of the victims, accounting for 25 deaths, while eight men also lost their lives.
Domestic gas cylinder explosions accounted for six deaths, including four women and two men, and injured another person.
AP also recorded 27 deaths in other explosion-related incidents, including 21 women and six men.The report additionally reported 11 deaths due to collapse of structures, including nine men and two women.
In the category of accidental deaths due to forces of nature, AP reported 187 deaths. The figure was lower than Telangana’s 222 deaths, but higher than Karnataka’s 103 and Tamil Nadu’s 74.
Nationally, the NCRB observed that the 30-45 years age group accounted for the highest share of accidental deaths, followed by people aged between 45 and 60 years. Men formed the majority of victims across most accident categories.
