AP police ask politicians to maintain restraint on June 4 in view of counting
Anakapalle: In the wake of post-poll violence, the police department asked leaders of various political parties to maintain restraint on the counting day on June 4.
The department made a request in this regard following information that violence might break out on June 4. The exit poll results would be released on June 1 followed by counting on June 4. The police categorically informed the leaders that stern action would be initiated against those who indulge in violence as the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is still in vogue.
In an interactive session convened with political parties on Monday, Anakapalle Superintendent of Police KV Murali Krishna appealed to leaders to maintain restraint on June 4. He thanked them for extending cooperation for conducting elections peacefully in the district on May 13.
“We request your support in the similar manner on the counting day as well,” he said. The department is making elaborate security arrangements at all the sensitive areas in the State to prevent any untoward incident during counting. It is maintaining a constant vigil on trouble-mongers and history sheets were also opened against those who indulged in post-poll violence.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has taken a serious notice of the violent incidents that took place in Narasaraopet, Palnadu, Chandragiri in Tirupati, Tadipatri and other areas during and after polling in Andhra Pradesh from May 13 and asked the department to initiate stringent action against culprits.
