AP Plans to Acquire More Land for Amaravati

Andhra Pradesh to expand Amaravati capital with more land acquisitions to meet growing demand.

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government plans to acquire more land for the construction of the capital city of Amaravati. According to reliable sources, the government decided to acquire more land in a phased manner after many institutions and companies showed interest to set up their businesses and a good number of farmers came forward to give their lands.

Initially, the government wanted to develop the capital city in a 217-sq km area and intended to take up land acquisition based on that.

As the state government started to develop the capital city in a big way by mobilising funds from various sources, including the Centre and international agencies, the CRDA appears to be having just only 2,000 acres left while there is huge demand for more land. Moreover, as the state proposes to build an international airport in Amaravati, it is estimated that it requires nearly 4,000 acres to develop it.

Though the government earlier intended to acquire 37,941 acres falling in 28 villages of Thullur, Mangalagiri and Tadepalli mandals for developing the capital city, it acquired 34,689 acres as the farmers volunteered to part with their lands, while 3,252 acres are yet to be acquired.

The state government is planning to set up a start-up project by holding talks with Singapore-based agencies, and accordingly, it is keeping 1,691 acres of land previously allotted to them without using it for any other purpose.

Sources said the state government is taking up a series of developmental works, and sectors like education, healthcare, commerce, entertainment and hospitality are attracting investors. BITS and Xavier School of Management are also found to be seeking allocation of land to set up their institutions in Amaravati. Moreover, several central agencies too are finding interest to set up their offices and research centres.

As the state government has plans to develop a mega city covering Amaravati, Vijayawada, Guntur, Mangalagiri, Tenali in the future, it is taking up construction of an inner ring road to Amaravati and also an outer ring road.
