AP Officials On Tour To Study Sanitation, Waste Management Models

Vijayawada:Teams of officials belonging to the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) in Andhra Pradesh have embarked on a nationwide tour to study the best practices in sanitation and solid waste management in the country. The tour started on Tuesday and will continue till Friday, August 23.
The various teams will acquire first-hand knowledge of innovative waste management models being implemented across the country, before evolving a model suitable for Andhra Pradesh.
Principal secretary (MAUD) S. Suresh Kumar said the study is being undertaken by Swachh Andhra Corporation as part of the state’s commitment to Swachh Bharat Mission – Urban 2.0 and its broader circular economy vision.
Suresh Kumar said nine teams comprising municipal commissioners, sanitary inspectors, engineers and public health officials have been deputed to different states to study advanced facilities, such as wet and dry waste processing units, compressed biogas (CBG) plants, construction and demolition (C&D) waste facilities, plastic and e-waste recycling units, and slaughter waste treatment plants.
The principal secretary said the states being visited include Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka and Kerala in the south and Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and West Bengal.
Each team has been directed to interact with local municipal officials, inspect plants of varying capacities, and document operational methodologies. Upon completion of the tour, the officials will submit a comprehensive report with recommendations tailored for implementation in Andhra Pradesh.
