AP NDA Government To Launch Free Power For Weavers From August 7
Handlooms and Textiles minister S. Savitha announced that Andhra Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, will start implementing the free electricity scheme for handloom weavers from August 7, coinciding with National Handloom Day.

VIJAYAWADA: Handlooms and Textiles minister S. Savitha announced that Andhra Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, will start implementing the free electricity scheme for handloom weavers from August 7, coinciding with National Handloom Day.
Providing details, she said as part of the scheme, 200 units of free electricity will be provided to handlooms and 500 units to powerlooms, benefiting around 65,000 weaver families across the state. This is expected to give a major boost to the handloom sector in the state.
The annual financial outgo on the scheme is estimated at ₹125 crore.
Savitha expressed her happiness over the CM fulfilling another key election promise. The scheme will greatly help weavers, who have suffered greatly between 2019 and 2024 due to a lack of government support.
The minister asserted that the initiative is part of a broader vision to revive the handloom sector. In this regard, she pointed out that the state government has already introduced a ₹10,000 crore Textiles Policy, aimed at providing year-round employment to weavers and creating 1.51 lakh jobs.
Further, she said, pensions of ₹4,000 per month are being extended to 92,724 weavers under the NTR Bharosa scheme, amounting to ₹370.89 crore in the first year.
