AP Moves SC Against HC Order Quashing 34% BC Reservation
The challenge relates to 34 per cent BC political reservation in gram panchayats and urban local bodies.

Vijayawada:The Andhra Pradesh government filed a Special Leave Petition in the Supreme Court on Saturday challenging the High Court judgment quashing two government orders providing 34 per cent reservation to Backward Classes in local body elections.
The challenge relates to 34 per cent BC political reservation in gram panchayats and urban local bodies. The High Court held that the empirical material relied upon by the State did not satisfy the requirements for fixing the percentage of BC political reservation and that the overall reservation had to comply with the 50 per cent ceiling laid down in Supreme Court judgments.
The High Court also questioned the state’s reliance on the Unified Family Survey and other data to determine the extent of BC political reservation.
