VIJAYAWADA: Health minister Satya Kumar Yadav called for strengthening healthcare services in hospitals and ensuring patient safety ahead of World Patient Safety Day, to be observed on September 17.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the minister stressed the importance of early diagnosis, timely treatment, proper use of medicines and monitoring patients' health after treatment.
He said nearly 2.83 crore people had undergone medical tests under Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) 4.0, of whom 59.38 lakh were found to have high blood pressure and 48.32 lakh diabetes.
As part of NCD 4.0, extensive medical tests are being conducted among people aged above 18 to detect blood pressure, diabetes and oral, breast and uterine cancers. Early diagnosis would help ensure proper and timely treatment, he said.
Satya Kumar ruled out any delay or disruption in treatment once diseases were confirmed and said further tests, medicines and other health services would be linked to the Sanjeevani health scheme.
He stressed the need to provide medicines on time and create awareness among patients about using them as prescribed by doctors. He also highlighted the role of family members in supporting patients, particularly those suffering from chronic diseases.
The minister called for strict compliance with hospital protocols, from admission and treatment to the provision of healthcare and other services. He also called for awareness programmes on World Patient Safety Day among health personnel in all districts and teaching hospitals, with emphasis on providing proper care to patients.
