AP Initiates Steps to Curb Anomalies in Fertiliser Sales

VIJAYAWADA: The state agriculture authorities have initiated regulatory measures to curb irregularities in fertiliser sales and suspended the sale of 13,364 metric tonnes of fertilisers worth Rs 30.60 crore since April 1.
Following complaints from farmers about fertilisers being sold at higher prices and their sale being linked to other products, the authorities introduced stringent measures. They seized 2,331 metric tonnes of fertilisers worth `5.11 crore, suspended 215 fertiliser dealer licences, registered 63 cases under Clause 6-A and six FIRs, and cancelled five licences.
Agriculture director Dr Manazir Jeelani Samoon said in a statement on Thursday that several measures had been taken to ensure transparent distribution of fertilisers.
He said 15.25 lakh farmers had purchased 3.07 lakh metric tonnes of fertilisers through the Andhra Pradesh Agricultural Information Management System app. Of them, 3 lakh were tenant farmers who procured 96,694 metric tonnes.
The director advised farmers to use urea strictly according to the recommended doses and not exceed the prescribed quantity. He said adequate stocks of urea were available in the state.
