AP initiates disciplinary action against ex-ADGP Sanjay

Vijayawada:The Andhra Pradesh government has initiated disciplinary action against former additional director general of police, Crime Investigation, N Sanjay, on charges of misconduct.

Chief Secretary K Vijayanand issued an order on Monday, saying the government has decided to initiate disciplinary action against Sanjay in accordance with the procedure laid down in Rule 8 of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969.

Sanjay was asked to submit a written statement of defence and whether he intended to be heard in person within 30 days of receipt of this order. If no written statement of defence is filed within stipulated period and if he fails to appear in person before the competent authority, action would be initiated against him.

The GO stated that Sanjay, while holding FAC to the post of director general, AP State Disaster Response and Fire Services, committed grave misconduct and irregularities.

The article of charges framed against him cited irregularities during tender process for development and maintenance of AGNI-NOC portal, irregularities in procurement of eight Microsoft surface pro 8 devices and two Apple iPad Pro devices for a total amount of `17.89 lakh.

He also abused office to expedite payments to M/s Sauthrika Technologies and Infra Pvt Ltd without proper verification of work progress and failed to safeguard public funds and to ensure prudent financial management, while serving as DG of Disaster Response and Fire Services, it was stated in the GO.

Sanjay also faced charges of failure to exercise proper oversight in the implementation of SC and ST awareness workshops despite allocation of `1 crore each for SC and ST workshops and authorised payments worth `1.19 crore to M/s Kritvyap Technologies Pvt Ltd. This was despite clear evidence showing that the actual expenditure for the services provided was only `3.10 lakh and this resulted in a misappropriation of `1.15 crore, as per the charge-sheet.
