AP High Court Reserves Verdict On MP’s Pre-Arrest Bail In Liquor Scam Case

Justice T. Mallikarjuna Rao, hearing the verdict, reserved his verdict on the petition.

Vijayawada:Andhra Pradesh High Court completed on Thursday its hearing on a petition that MP P.V. Mithun Reddy filed seeking anticipatory bail in the AP liquor scam case.

Justice T. Mallikarjuna Rao, hearing the verdict, reserved his verdict on the petition.

The petitioner’s counsel T. Niranjan Reddy argued that though the investigating agency has no evidence of Mithun Reddy’s involvement in the liquor scam, it has made him an accused in the case.

The counsel argued that the investigation agency is adopting dual standards in the case. He pointed out that one of the accused Satya Prasad has not been arrested. Further, the then AP Beverages Corporation managing director Vasudeva Reddy has been allowed to return to his parent department.

Niranjan Reddy pleaded that the court grant anticipatory bail to his client, as he is a three-time MP and has been cooperating with the inquiring authorities in the case.

Supreme Court senior lawyer Siddarth Luthra, representing the investigation agency, argued that as the inquiry in the case is still in progress, there is a need to take the petitioner into custody for further questioning. He appealed to the court not to grant anticipatory bail to the petitioner.

After hearing both the sides, Justice Mallikarjuna Rao reserved his verdict.
