Naidu Pushes For Bay City Project In Visakhapatnam

Naidu instructed officials to constitute a Special Executive Committee to oversee implementation of the Bay City project, with focus on Global Capability Centres (GCCs), fintech, and logistics.

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday directed officials to prepare micro-level plans for comprehensive development of the proposed Visakha Economic Region (VER), stressing that every area, sector, and tourism destination should be integrated into a balanced growth strategy capable of transforming North Andhra into a global investment and economic hub.
Reviewing the VER Master Plan at his camp office, the AP CM said development should extend from Mulapeta Port in Srikakulam district to the proposed Akhanda Godavari project in Rajamahendravaram, ensuring that no region is left behind. He instructed officials to identify opportunities at the grassroots level, create experience zones wherever required, and integrate all major infrastructure, industrial, and tourism projects to maximise regional development.
Naidu said the proposed Visakhapatnam Bay City project would serve as the anchor for the Visakha Economic Region. It should drive large-scale urban transformation by converging funds from multiple government schemes. He directed officials to intensify efforts to secure financial assistance from the central government and ensure that the six urban development authorities within the region undergo significant transformation with world-class infrastructure.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that VER has the potential to attract investments worth nearly ₹9.5 lakh crore, including around ₹5.3 lakh crore from the private sector. The government would have to invest between ₹3.5 lakh crore and ₹4 lakh crore. Officials pointed out that landmark projects, such as the Google AI Data Centre and the ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel Plant have already strengthened Visakhapatnam's position as an emerging investment destination.
Officials pointed out that the city already possesses a strong ecosystem for information technology, data centres, and advanced industries, making it ideally suited for the proposed economic region, with the Bay City project acting as its growth engine.
Naidu emphasised that development must reflect the aspirations of local communities while generating employment opportunities. He directed officials to upgrade the skills of local youth to meet the requirements of emerging industries. He asked them to ensure that industrial ecosystems, integrated townships, and tourism projects are developed in accordance with Coastal Management Plans and Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms.
The CM called for greater participation of the private sector through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects. He asked officials to examine the feasibility of extending Viability Gap Funding (VGF) wherever necessary. The government, he said, should regularly communicate the progress of projects and employment opportunities they create to the public.
