AP Government Pledges Support to BC, OBC Staff

Savitha pointed out that BC hostels have been constructed and Gurukul schools are being modernised.

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the welfare and rights of its backward classes (BC) and other backward classes (OBC) employees, describing them as vital bridges between the government and people of the state.

Addressing a State Conference of BC and OBC Employees in Vijayawada on Sunday, BC Welfare minister S. Savitha emphasised that the coalition government is determined to create a strong support system for BC and other employees of various categories.

She maintained that her participation in the conference is a matter of pride for her and sends a positive signal to the nation.

The minister maintained that the government is focusing on education as a key driver for development of BC and OBC communities. It is providing them support through coaching for various exams, including for employment in civil services at the district and state levels.

She pointed out that BC hostels have been constructed and Gurukul schools are being modernised.

Savitha announced plans of celebrating Mahatma Jyotirao Phule's birth anniversary at the state level on April 11.

Speaking on the occasion, Excise minister Kollu Ravindra revealed that the government is planning a special "BC Protection Act" to safeguard the community from discrimination and harm.
