AP: GO 251 Issued for Implementation of BC Reservation In Local Body Polls

The Andhra Pradesh government has issued key orders regarding BC reservation in the local body elections. The GO is applicable to municipalities, nagar panchayats and municipal corporations. The government gave its consent to the recommendations of the special commission constituted to finalise the BC reservations.
The Commission made it clear that SC, ST and BC reservations together should not cross the 50 per cent mark. Accordingly, the reservations would be implemented in compliance with the Supreme Court and AP High Court orders.

The coalition government has finalized reservations for mayors, municipal chairpersons, and ward members on rotation basis. Basing on the reservation circle implemented in 2021, further reservations would be finalized. If the wards have been divided further, the ward members reservation circle would be started afresh.
The government issued orders to the municipal administration department to take further action with regard to the implementation of the reservations.
Municipal and urban development principal secretary S. Suresh Kumar issued GO No. 251 to this extent.
