AP: Districts Post Strong Farm Growth, But Governance Trails

Vijayawada:While districts across Andhra Pradesh are showing strong economic momentum in agriculture and allied sectors, uneven performance by administrative mechanisms and gaps in economic-data capacity have emerged as key challenges as the government attempts monthly performance monitoring.
At the eighth collectors’ conference on Thursday, provisional estimates showed agriculture and allied-sector Gross Value Added (GVA) rising 14.19 per cent to Rs 71,087 crore in Q1 of 2026-27 from Rs 62,252 crore a year earlier. Visakhapatnam led the growth at 38.49 per cent, followed by Bapatla at 37.20 per cent and Prakasam at 34.09 per cent.
West Godavari and Srikakulam recorded a growth of 23.98 per cent and 20.06 per cent respectively.
Fisheries and aquaculture emerged as a major driver, growing 23.72 per cent, while livestock expanded 10 per cent. In absolute GVA, Eluru topped the chart with Rs 8,183 crore, followed by Krishna at Rs 5,908 crore and West Godavari at Rs 5,778 crore.
The planning department said GVA/GSDP capacity-building training had been completed in 23 of the 28 districts. Anakapalli, Polavaram, Bapatla, Markapuram and Sri Sathyasai were in the final phase of the programme conducted from July 22 to September 9.
The training seeks to equip officials at district, constituency and mandal levels to use economic data for evidence-based planning under Swarna Andhra@2047.
The government is also institutionalising a monthly district performance scorecard. The August assessment showed 21 districts in the A+ category for social indicators, while 26 were in A+ or A for economic performance. Governance was weaker, with 14 districts in the B category.
Eluru and Vizianagaram jointly topped the overall ranking with 87, followed by East Godavari at 87. Annamayya and Anakapalli scored 86, while Guntur and YSR Kadapa secured 85. Polavaram was at the bottom with 73, while Parvathipuram Manyam and Dr B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema scored 79 each.
The monthly system will link district reports with constituency and mandal-level assessments, while a State Monthly Economic Report would provide a wider picture. Monthly zonal reviews would be held in the third week, with the rankings also aimed at identifying best practices and improving accountability.
