AP Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan Undergoes Successful Shoulder Surgery at Mumbai Hospital

Doctors said that performing surgery on both shoulders at the same time would result in severe pain during recovery. Therefore, surgery was performed on the rotator cuff injury in his right shoulder on Saturday.

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Jana Sena president K. Pawan Kalyan underwent successful rotator cuff surgery on his right shoulder at a hospital in Mumbai on Saturday.

According to an official statement from the Deputy Chief Minister’s Office, the three-and-a-half-hour procedure was successful and his condition is stable. He is recovering under medical supervision.
The statement said Pawan Kalyan had been suffering from severe rotator cuff injuries in both shoulders, along with muscle tears. The injuries were first sustained in 2016 and had worsened over the years.
According to the statement, the deterioration was attributed to his extensive public engagements, including the Praja Porata Yatra and Varahi Yatra, as well as repeated handshakes and supporters pulling his arms during public interactions.
Medical examinations conducted in April, ahead of a nasal surgery, revealed the extent of the injuries. Doctors advised immediate surgery, but Pawan Kalyan chose to complete his scheduled official engagements before undergoing the procedure.
Doctors recommended against operating on both shoulders simultaneously because of the expected post-operative pain. Surgery was therefore performed only on the right shoulder, while the left shoulder is expected to undergo a similar procedure after about two months. Pre-operative tests were conducted on Friday.
The Deputy Chief Minister’s Office said Pawan Kalyan had continued to discharge his political and official responsibilities despite living with the injuries for nearly a decade. He will remain under medical observation before resuming official duties.
