AP: Couple Dies by Suicide, Daughter Critical

Visakhapatnam: A couple and their young daughter attempted suicide in Ampolu village, Gara mandal of Srikakulam district. Apparao and his wife, Lalitha, died at the scene, while their daughter, Devi, remains in critical condition at Srikakulam Government General Hospital (GGH), where she is receiving medical care.
Sub-inspector Gaganraj of Gara police station said that the incident stemmed from financial pressures.
Apparao had been suffering from blindness for an extended period, which impacted his ability to work and support his family. The visual impairment, coupled with mounting financial difficulties, had created severe mental anguish for him.
The SI added that after his mother’s demise, Apparao’s brother asked them to vacate the house, which added to the distress.
Tirupati Police Arrest Bike Thief Involved in 53 Cases
Tirupati: Tirupati district police on Sunday arrested a habitual offender involved in more than 50 motorcycle thefts across the district and recovered several stolen vehicles.
The accused, identified as P. Kumar (39) of Tiruchanoor, had been targeting two-wheelers in different parts of Tirupati for the past few years.
District superintendent of police (SP) V. Harshavardhan Raju disclosed the details at a press conference, saying Kumar resorted to theft as his earnings from a private job were insufficient to fund his lifestyle and personal habits.
“We will be opening a suspect sheet against him, and special teams have already been formed to check such crimes,” the SP said. He added that police are also keeping close watch on the movements of habitual offenders released from jails.
The arrest was made during vehicle checks near the Renigunta–Chandragiri bypass on Sunday, when Kumar attempted to flee on a motorcycle but was caught by Tiruchanur police.
Investigation revealed he was previously booked in several theft cases and had stolen 53 motorcycles, mostly Hero Splendor+, Hero Passion Pro, Honda Unicorn and Suzuki Access models, valued at around ₹40 lakh.
The SP commended inspector B. Sunil Kumar, sub-inspectors I. Jagannadha Reddy, M. Aruna, and T. Sainath Chowdhary, and crime staff for their efforts and announced rewards for the team.
Liquor, Vehicles Seized in Nandyal Raids
Kurnool: Nandyal district police conducted cordon and search operations in 10 police station limits on Sunday to ensure public safety, strengthen friendly policing, and curb anti-social activities.
In the Nandyal subdivision, operations at A. Koduru and Pasurapadu villages led to the seizure of 12 vehicles without valid documents and 21 liquor bottles.
In the Allagadda subdivision, 10 vehicles were seized at Peddakambaluru and Jagajjanani Nagar.
In the Dhone subdivision, police seized 27 motorbikes and 15 liquor bottles from Nandivargam, Venkatanayunipalle, and Durgapeta.
In Atmakur subdivision, raids at Kottalachervu, Yerraguduru, and Shikaripet resulted in the seizure of 21 bikes, 14 liquor bottles, 20 litres of illicit liquor, and the destruction of 200 litres of jaggery wash.
Police thoroughly checked houses of suspects, rowdy-sheeters, and history-sheeters.
Officials Ordered to Stop All Child Marriages
Kakinada: Eluru District Legal Services Authority secretary K. Ratna Prasad instructed officials to ensure that not a single case of child marriage is registered.
He convened a meeting in Vennavellavaripeta in Eluru on Sunday. He said that marriage should be performed only after women have reached 18 years of age and men 21 years. Women are healthier after 18 years, ensuring better maternal and child health outcomes.
He added that any legal assistance required can be availed from the District Legal Services Authority or by contacting the helpline number 15100.
ITDA project officer K. Ramulu Naick advised every citizen to pursue higher education to prevent child marriages, as lack of education leads to ignorance of their harmful effects.
Vetapalem Police Crack Robbery of Gold Merchant
Vijayawada: Vetapalem Police have arrested five accused in connection with the robbery of a gold merchant and recovered gold worth ₹4 lakh from them.
The incident occurred on August 20 when a gang of seven targeted Rehman, a gold merchant in Vijayawada. They contacted him after a post on social media by SVR SK Gold Limited, which claimed to help release gold collateral from banks and purchase it at market rates for a commission.
Believing them, Rehman travelled to Lakshmipuram village in Vetapalem mandal on the specified date. Once he arrived at the house of the main accused, the gang assaulted him, threatened him with knives, and robbed him of ₹4 lakh in cash, money in his pocket, and his mobile phone.
Rehman, however, managed to escape and lodged a complaint with police.
Police have identified those arrested as Malli Rajesh (37), Kavati Nagaraju (38), Annareddy Indra alias Bablu (24), Mallela Mounika (37) and Chinnabotula Chanti (50). Two other accused, Annareddy Madhu and Annareddy Mahendra (24), are still at large.
113 Bikes, 7 Autos Seized During Cordon & Search in Nellore
Nellore: In a major drive aimed at boosting public confidence in the police system and curbing anti-social activities, the Nellore district police conducted mega cordon and search operations in the limits of six police stations across the Nellore town subdivision.
During the searches, police seized 113 two-wheelers and 7 auto-rickshaws lacking valid documents, after inspecting every house in the area.
The operation was supervised by Additional SP (Administration) Ch. Soujanya and town DSP Sindhu Priya.
A total of 350 police personnel, including CIs, SIs, staff and special teams, participated.
Police said the searches focused on tracking absconding criminals, stolen property (gold, silver, etc.), unregistered vehicles, illegal liquor, weapons, explosives, and narcotics.
Authorities urged citizens to cooperate with such operations and report any information regarding illegal activities or suspicious persons to their local police or through Dial 100/112.
They warned of strict legal action against those indulging in anti-social activities.
