AP CM visiting Delhi to push for Polavaram-Banakacharla link

Naidu to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah, followed by meetings with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and others in New Delhi

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu will be visiting New Delhi on July 15 and July 16 to get several issues resolved from the centre, including the Polavaram-Banakacharla connectivity, which the Telangana government is opposing.

According to sources, Chandrababu Naidu is continuing to give top preference to Polavaram-Banakacharla link, continuing to maintain that it in no way harms the neighbouring Telangana state. The AP CM is going to explain grounds for the same to union ministers during his Delhi visit.
Chandrababu Naidu has been repeatedly emphasising that there is abundant water in Godavari River, while the Krishna River resources are limited.
AP CM has made it clear that AP and Telangana need not fight each other over the Polavaram-Banakacharla project. The two states can sit down, discuss the issues and find solutions to the satisfaction of both the states.
Naidu has underlined that the Telugu states can use the excess Godavari waters, especially because these would otherwise flow into the sea. In fact, his refrain has been that both the states are already using Godavari water.
The AP CM’s stand is that apart from Polavaram, other projects have not received any formal approval as per the AP Reorganisation Act. Polavaram is under construction and AP will transfer water to another basin from the last reaches of the Godavari stream.
Naidu is expected to explain all these intricacies to the stakeholder union ministers and central officials as part of getting the union government’s approval for the Polavaram-Banakacharla linkage.
The AP CM will depart from Amaravati on July 15 morning. He is scheduled to meet union Home minister Amit Shah in the afternoon. Thereafter during the day, he will hold meetings with union Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, IT and Railways minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Jal Shakti minister C.R. Patil, Labour and Employment minister Mansukh Mandaviya, NITI Aayog member Dr. V.K. Saraswat, and the managing director of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
On July 15 evening, Chandrababu Naidu will attend a memorial service in honour of former prime minister P.V. Narasimha Rao at the Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library in Delhi at 4:30 p.m.
On July 16, Chandrababu Naidu will continue his meetings with key union ministers, apart from holding a special discussion at the Finance ministry’s office in North Block. In the evening, he will participate in a business conference hosted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
The AP Chief Minister will return to Amaravati on July 17 at 9:30 a.m.
