AP CM Promises Branding for SHG Products to Ensure Better Incomes for Women

Naidu reiterated that a structured, professional approach to production, branding and sales would help women’s collectives compete effectively in wider markets and emerge as successful entrepreneurs.

Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday directed those managing the state rural poverty eradication programme (SERP) to develop a strong, distinctive brand for products manufactured by self-help groups.

This, he said, must be done with the clear objective of ensuring sustainable incomes for women.

Reviewing the functioning of the SERP and MEPMA departments, at the secretariat, the CM said branding would enable over 23,000 varieties of products made by women’s groups to reach both national and international markets.

He felt innovative and differential branding, coupled with organised marketing, would enhance the value of SHG products.

Drawing a parallel with the global recognition earned by Araku coffee, Naidu said SHG products too should be developed and positioned similarly to international standards.

The chief minister said branding and marketing initiatives must be designed to provide long-term financial stability to SHG women and micro-entrepreneurs. He also encouraged women’s groups to expand their footprint beyond agriculture and animal husbandry into the services sector, thereby diversifying their income streams and strengthening livelihoods.

Naidu reiterated that a structured, professional approach to production, branding and sales would help women’s collectives compete effectively in wider markets and emerge as successful entrepreneurs.

SERP minister Kondapalli Srinivas and senior officials were present.
