AP CM Gearing Up to Fulfill Another Super Six Assurance: Free RTC Bus Travel to Women

APSRTC officials charted out a plan for the free travel. The cabinet sub-committee with ministers Ramprasad Reddy, Anitha and Sandhya Rani would meet on August 4 to discuss the plan.

Vijayawada: Come August 15, women residing in Andhra Pradesh would start travelling free on RTC buses across the state. What they need to possess is an ID proof.

The rollout of this bonanza, marking Independence Day, was one of the Super Six poll promises the TD-JS-BJP alliance made to the electorate shortly before the last year’s assembly and Lok sabha polls. Recently, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu heading the alliance government fulfilled the Annadatha Sukhibhava 'Super Six' promise.

For ID proof, either the Aadhaar, voter ID or PAN card would suffice.

Naidu has directed officials to issue ‘Zero Fare Tickets’ to women passengers under the RTC free bus travel scheme from August 15. The tickets must include details such as the route travelled, the amount of money saved through the free service, and the full 100 per cent subsidy the government provides, he said.

APSRTC officials charted out a plan for the free travel. The cabinet sub-committee with ministers Ramprasad Reddy, Anitha and Sandhya Rani would meet on August 4 to discuss the plan. The proposals would be discussed at the state cabinet meeting on August 6.

The APSRTC plan stressed the need for more buses, more drivers and more conductors with proper training. The corporation has 11,449 buses, of which 8,548 are rural, ultra rural, city ordinary, express and metro express buses. These are crucial in the implementation of the scheme.

Corporation MD Dwaraka Tirumala Rao said arrangements are being made to effectively implement the free travel scheme for women. Women can travel free in five types of buses. These cover palle velugu, ultra palle velugu, city ordinary, metro express, and express buses.

APSRTC chairman Konakalla Narayana Rao and Tirumala Rao reviewed the preparedness aspects. Narayana Rao said, “We are fully prepared to implement the 3-party alliance’s election promise. Women will soon be able to travel “from any point to any point within the state with just a valid government-issued ID card.”

He said the scheme would bring significant changes to women’s lives in AP. “The scheme is exclusively for women residing in the state.”
