Crops: AP CM Asks Officials To Educate Farmers On El Nino Impact

Urges awareness among farmers on El Niño's impact and asks government employees to improve performance to meet public expectations.

Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to spread awareness among farmers on the need to raise alternative crops in view of deficit rain and water shortage due to the El Niño conditions in the state.
The CM chaired a review meeting on the functioning of several departments at the secretariat here on Monday. With the weather forecast indicating the El Niño effect to become severe and prevail throughout the year, Naidu called for alert and said farmers should be encouraged to raise alternative crops in view of the water shortage. Spread of awareness among the farmers must be taken up, he said.
Naidu asked the officials to advise farmers as to the areas where they could take up cultivation and also the crops that are suitable for areas where water availability would be less.
He underscored the need to implement the action plan on crop insurance for the farmers.
Naidu referred to gaps in the delivery of government services to the people, especially in remote areas, based on the feedback received from the general public during his recent visit to Alur assembly constituency in Kurnool district. He underlined the need for government employees to perform as per the expectations of the people.
Meanwhile, Naidu expressed sorrow over the death by suicide of a Class X female student from Rampachodavaram, Murram Sivani, who attended the recently held Mega Parent-Teacher Meeting in Rampachodavaram. He recalled the girl’s stated high ambition to pursue higher education. He ordered a high- level inquiry into her death.
The chief minister advised the students and the youth to face the troubles in their life boldly and share their grief and agony with their family members, friends and those close to their heart.
Officials informed the CM of a series of measures being initiated in the school education department to conduct psychometric assessment to monitor student’s mental health. Naidu directed the officials to engage mental health experts for proper evaluation and ensure that the teachers receive adequate training to identify and support the students facing psychological stress.
