AP chambers urges IndiGo to establish code-sharing for International connectivity from Vijayawada
AP Chambers asks IndiGo for global flights from Vijayawada
Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation (AP Chambers) has formally requested IndiGo to consider implementing code-sharing agreements with international airlines for flights operating from Vijayawada International Airport.
In a letter addressed to Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer of InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (IndiGo), the business body highlighted the significant demand for seamless international travel options from the Vijayawada region. According to AP Chambers, hundreds of international travellers from Andhra Pradesh currently rely on airports in Hyderabad, Bangalore, and Chennai due to the absence of direct international flights or code-share arrangements from Vijayawada.
"Vijayawada is experiencing rapid growth with a steadily increasing number of international travellers, including expatriates, students, and business professionals," the letter stated. AP Chambers noted that IndiGo, with its established operational presence in Vijayawada and existing global partnerships, is ideally positioned to explore code-sharing agreements that could transform travel convenience for residents of the region.
The business organization pointed out that passengers flying from Vijayawada currently face logistical challenges such as re-check-ins and baggage reclaims at connecting airports.
AP Chambers' President Potluri Bhaskara Rao requested IndiGo to evaluate the feasibility of this initiative and explore potential collaborations with its global airline partners. "We are hopeful for improved international connectivity from Vijayawada International Airport with IndiGo's support," Rao stated in the letter.
