AP Cabinet Clears Formation of Three New Districts; Total to Rise to 28

The final gazette notification is anticipated to be released within two days.

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, announced on Monday the approval for the formation of three new districts: Madanapalle, Markapuram, and Rampachodavaram. This decision increases the total number of districts in the state to 28. The final gazette notification is anticipated to be released within two days.

Key Reorganisational Changes:
Rayachoti, currently the headquarters of Annamayya district, will be merged into the newly created Madanapalle district.
Rajampet will be integrated with Kadapa district.
Railway Koduru will become part of Tirupati district.
Gudur will be transferred from Tirupati district back to Nellore district.
Five new revenue divisions were also approved.
Rationale for the Changes:
Chief Minister Naidu explained that the reorganisation was necessary due to "unavoidable circumstances and in the larger public interest." He addressed specific concerns:
Rayachoti: Although minister Ramprasad Reddy advocated for retaining Rayachoti as a district headquarters, the Chief Minister stated it was not viable to create a district around a single Assembly constituency.
Rajampet and Railway Koduru: The decision was based on public preference, with Rajampet residents favouring Kadapa and those in Railway Koduru preferring Tirupati.
Other Cabinet Decisions:
The Cabinet also considered other administrative matters:
Mandals: Out of a proposal to create three new mandals in Adoni, only two were approved.
Nellore District: Discussions were held regarding administrative issues in Nellore, where the revenue division and DSP jurisdictions are located in different places.
Administrative Outlook:
In concluding remarks, the Chief Minister declared 2025 as the start of significant administrative reforms. He called upon officials to enhance their efficiency in 2026 and reviewed the government's administrative accomplishments over the preceding year.
