Vijayawada: Newly elected Andhra Pradesh BJP president P.V.N. Madhav has appealed to the state government to rename the Lenin Centre in Vijayawada as Kavi Samrat Viswanatha Satyanarayana Centre.
A large number of BJP leaders and party cadre gathered at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram and took out a rally, led by Madhav, to the party’s state office in the city on Wednesday, where he formally assumed charge.
During the procession, Madhav stopped at the Lenin Centre and questioned the rationale behind naming a prominent location after Lenin, who, he said, had no connection with India. He urged the government to instead honour Kavi Samrat Viswanatha Satyanarayana, who had made immense contributions towards the promotion of the Telugu language and literature.
Madhav, along with other BJP leaders, later paid floral tributes to the statue of Viswanatha Satyanarayana.
After taking charge, Madhav vowed to work with commitment to strengthen the BJP in the state. He later paid courtesy visits to Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan at the Jana Sena Party office in Mangalagiri, and to Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh at his residence in Undavalli.
