AP Bags Five Swachh Survekshan Awards

Minister for municipal administration P. Narayana will receive the awards from President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony to be held in New Delhi on July 17.

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh has won five Swachh Survekshan awards for its cities across various categories, as announced by the Centre on Saturday.

Vijayawada, Guntur, and Tirupati have been selected under the ‘Swachh Super League Cities’ category at the national level. Vijayawada falls under the below 10 lakh population category, Guntur under 3 to 10 lakh, and Tirupati under the 50,000 to 3 lakh range.

Visakhapatnam, under the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), was selected for the ‘Special Category Ministerial Award’ at the national level, while Rajamahendravaram secured the ‘Ministerial Award’ at the state level.

AP Swachh Andhra Corporation chairman K. Pattabhi Ram expressed happiness at the recognition of five cities in the state, crediting the achievement to effective sanitation and hygiene efforts. “The efforts of the government over the past seven to eight months have yielded these results. I congratulate and thank all those involved. The credit goes to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, under whose direction we are working,” he said.
