CM Says State Would Be Strict In Preventing Tax Evasion

Vijayawada:Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has said Andhra Pradesh would aim to become a role model for the country in GST collections, with strong steps to prevent tax evasion.
On Friday, a coordination meeting of central and state GST officials was chaired by the CM here. Finance special chief secretary Piyush Kumar, chief taxes commissioner Babu A and GST officials from the central and state governments attended the meeting. Naidu stressed the use of technologies like data analytics to prevent tax evasion. Efficient tax collection would contribute to national wealth, which “should be used for public welfare and development.”
He said proper coordination between central and state GST officials is necessary for better GST realization. There should be an action plan for AP to match neighbouring states in GST collections. Tax data should be analysed using data analytics. Even factors like electricity consumption should be considered to detect evasion.
The CM directed GST officials to ensure there was no scope for tax fraud AP. “The goal of the state government is to make every system function efficiently. AP ranked 4th among states in attracting investments,” he said.
Naidu stressed that there should be no errors in GST registrations. The state government would build a data lake combining all departmental information in one place, which would also be shared with Central GST officials.
He said, “If the state receives its rightful share of resources, there will be no need for us to approach the Centre for every small issue.” Officials to work with organisations like CII to raise awareness and prevent tax evasion. They must act strictly if evasions still continue.
The officials present at the meeting stated that GST collections in the state have increased by 3.4 per cent, as per last count. The upcoming GST tribunals in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada would help resolve tax disputes.
Land: The central officials requested the CM to allocate 5 acres of land in Amaravati for constructing the central GST zonal office and residential quarters.
