Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has launched an ambitious plan to achieve 100% gross enrollment ratio (GER) across all educational institutions by 2030, aligning with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
B. Srinivasa Rao, state project director of Samagra Shiksha, made the announcement during a special session held in New Delhi to mark the 5th anniversary of NEP 2020. The session was presided over by Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Education.
Rao showcased the state’s flagship initiative, Learning Excellence in Andhra Pradesh (LEAP), as the cornerstone of its reform strategy. He also highlighted a major achievement — the state set a Guinness World Record by organising the largest Parent-Teacher Meeting (Mega PTM), with participation from 5.34 million parents and teachers, and a total turnout of 15.2 million, including students, alumni, and school committee members.
Andhra Pradesh’s multi-pronged educational strategy includes PM SHRI schools, PM Poshan, vocational and self-defense training, the Thalliki Vandanam and Vidyarthi Mitra schemes, PAL, EMDP, Amazon Future Engineers, career and mental health counselors, and transportation subsidies.
As part of the NEP 2020 celebrations, plaques were unveiled at PM SHRI Schools across India. Andhra Pradesh leads with 935 such schools, and 26 model institutions were specially recognized.
