Anitha Reviews Arrangements For Simhachalam Giri Pradakshina Starting Today

Visakhapatnam, July 8: District authorities have deployed a total of 2,460 police personnel to ensure that the Giri Pradakshina around the Simhachalam Temple in Visakhapatnam passes off smoothly. Thousands of devotees will start their circumambulation along the 32-kilometer route around the hill temple on Wednesday before having the darshan of Lord Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, presiding deity of the Simhachalam Devasthanam.
In view of the experiences during previous years, particularly along the narrow roads and in crowded areas, Home minister Vangalapudi Anitha reviewed the overall arrangements for the annual Pradakshina at a meeting held at the Police Commissioner's office on Tuesday. Officials of various stakeholder departments participated in the meeting.
Health department has set up 34 medical camps along the route to offer free medical care to devotees. 18 ambulances will be strategically placed along the procession route to deal with any emergencies. Private hospitals in Gopalapatnam and Pendurthi have been requested to provide free treatment to devotees who may fall ill while participating in the procession. Parking will be allowed only at designated places.
Giri Pradakshina will officially begin at 2 p.m. on Wednesday with the Pushparatham ceremony at Tolipavancha, where the chariot carrying the idol of Appanna Swamy will be flagged off by the Devasthanam’s hereditary trustee Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju. The 32-kilometer route will traverse through Old Adivivaram, Mudasarlova, Hanumanthavaka, Visalakshinagar, Jodugullapalem, Appughar, MVP Colony, Venkojipalem, Isukathota, HB Colony, Seethammadhara, Alluri Statue, Balayya Shastri Layout, Port Stadium, Kancharapalem, Madhavadhara, Muralinagar, NAD Junction, Gopalapatnam Bank, Prahladapuram, and Old Goshala Junction, before returning to Tolipavancha.
Traffic restrictions will be in force from 6 a.m. on Wednesday to 6 a.m. on Thursday. Vehicular movement will be completely prohibited between Hanumanthawaka Junction and Adivivaram Junction in both directions. Traffic could be restricted along the stretch from Adivivaram to Gopalapatnam Petrol Bunk until 5 p.m. on Thursday.
Private and RTC buses between Anakapalli, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram will be rerouted through Anandapuram, Pendurthi and Sabbavaram.
Devotees participating in the Pradakshina will be able to rest at 29 places along the route.
The Giri Pradakshina will conclude on Thursday with the sandalwood offering coinciding with the Ashadha Pournami.
For devotees unable to complete the entire 32-kilometer Giri Pradakshina, an alternate temple circumambulation will start at 3 a.m. on Wednesday with ramps installed at the North Gopuram and South Gopuram.
