Andhra Pradesh: Unemployed Youth Stage Massive Protest At Kurnool Collectorate

Protesters from various constituencies across the district gathered at the collectorate gate and launched a sit-in demonstration, holding placards and raising slogans. They demanded that the government issue a notification for at least 10,000 police posts, alleging that the number of vacancies had been drastically reduced.

“Earlier, the government stated that there were around 23,000 vacancies. Now they are talking about issuing a notification for just 2,500 posts. This is unacceptable,” said a student union leader participating in the protest.

Unemployed association leaders argued that if the notification is limited to 2,500 posts, the number of jobs allocated under district-wise reservations would be minimal. “In such a scenario, some communities may not even get four or five jobs. This is a grave injustice to unemployed youth,” a protester said.

The protest disrupted the regular Praja Grievance Redressal System (PGRS) programme held at the collectorate every Monday. Authorities were forced to close both gates of the collectorate, causing inconvenience to several petitioners who had arrived to submit their grievances.

The agitation, which began around 11 am, continued well past 2 pm, with protesters refusing to disperse without a clear assurance from the authorities. District revenue officer D. Venkatanarayanamma reached the spot and held discussions with the protest leaders, urging them to withdraw the agitation.

Heavy police deployment has been maintained at the collectorate premises since morning to prevent any untoward incidents.
