Andhra Pradesh: Two-Day Talk on Breaking the Silence Held

Vijayawada: The two-day international conference on “Breaking the Silence: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Gender Exploitation and Resistance” offered multifaceted insights into the issues of gender exploitation and resistance. Organised by SRM University-AP, the conference concluded on Thursday.
The event attracted a diverse audience of academicians, experts, research scholars, and students from across the country and abroad. It featured talks by eminent academicians such as Prof. Anita Singh, department of English, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi; Prof. Rajinder Dudrah, Professor of Cultural Studies and Creative Industries, Birmingham City University; Prof. Geetanjali Gangoli, department of sociology, Durham University; Prof. Nalini Iyer, department of English, Seattle University; and Prof. Priyanka Tripathi, department of humanities and social sciences, Indian Institute of Technology Patna.
The sessions explored themes such as gender and resistance, intersectionality, trauma, and survival. With five guest speakers, over 70 research paper presentations, and more than 140 participants, the conference provided diverse perspectives on gender exploitation and resistance.
In his address, Prof. Vishnupad, Dean of the Easwari School of Liberal Arts, stated, “Notwithstanding over 60 years of feminist movements and scholarship, gender asymmetry and violence remain persistent. Patriarchal structures and gender violence continue to be as rampant as they always were.”
The discussions at the conference addressed the numerous barriers within the system, encouraging participants to discuss, debate, and “break the silence” surrounding gender exploitation.
