Andhra Pradesh: State Committed To Strengthening BC Education: Savitha
She appealed to affluent individuals, particularly NRIs, to contribute to the development of their native villages: Reports

VIJAYAWADA: BC Welfare Minister S Savitha has asserted that the government is giving top priority to the education and welfare of Backward Class (BC) students by strengthening their residential institutions and improving infrastructure and the quality of food in hostels.
Savitha promised that the MJP BC Residential School at Vatsavai would be upgraded into a junior college, while lauding the P-4 model as an effective instrument for rural development and poverty alleviation.
The minister inaugurated a newly constructed dining hall and dormitory at the Vatsavai MJP residential school, built at a cost of ₹75 lakh with financial support from NRI philanthropist Chiru Mamilla Rambabu under the P-4 initiative. She praised Rambabu and his wife Vijayalakshmi for setting an inspiring example of philanthropy.
She appealed to affluent individuals, particularly NRIs, to contribute to the development of their native villages.
Describing the P-4 model as the CM’s visionary initiative, Savitha said the government was committed to improving educational opportunities for BCs. She claimed that MJP residential institutions now enjoyed better demand than many corporate educational institutions due to their academic standards and student achievements.
Highlighting the government's focus on education, the minister said 10 new BC Gurukul schools would be established this year, taking the total number of residential institutions in the state from 109 to 119. Six MJP girls' residential schools have already been upgraded into junior colleges.
Savitha said the government was constructing permanent buildings for MJP institutions with an allocation of ₹500 crore and had decided to establish new Gurukul schools instead of BC hostels. Infrastructure improvements, including RO water plants, CCTV cameras, inverters and mosquito screens in classrooms and dormitories, have been provided. Students are also being served quality meals prepared with fine rice, while diet charges will be increased by 10 per cent, she announced.
Reiterating her commitment to upgrade the Vatsavai MJP Residential School into a junior college, Savitha said the government would also provide a permanent building if additional land was allotted for the institution. She appreciated the philanthropic services of Rambabu and Vijayalakshmi, whose contributions to the school have crossed ₹1 crore, and felicitated their daughter Radha during the programme.
The minister distributed sports tracksuits to Gurukul students, inspected classrooms, dormitories and the kitchen, and later shared lunch with the students.
Jaggayyapeta MLA Sriram Rajagopal (Tatayya), KDCC Bank chairman Nettam Raghuram, school staff, students, parents and alliance leaders attended the programme.
