Andhra Pradesh: Slight Dip In Srisailam Inflows, Storage Nears 170 TMC Ft

KURNOOL: Inflows into the Srisailam reservoir from the Jurala project have marginally declined over the past 24 hours, though the reservoir storage remains high at nearly 170 tmc ft.
According to official data, the reservoir had been receiving inflows of up to 2.40 lakh cusecs a day until August 6. By Saturday afternoon, the inflow had dropped to 2,11,632 cusecs, a decline of nearly 30,000 cusecs.
Despite the dip, storage continued to rise. Against the full reservoir capacity of 215.807 tmc ft, the storage stood at 169.47 tmc ft on Saturday afternoon, following sustained inflows from upstream projects.
The total outflow from the reservoir was around 47,278 cusecs. Of this, about 37,000 cusecs was being used for power generation through the hydel power station, while around 10,000 cusecs was being released into canals for essential requirements.
Officials said water releases were being regulated carefully and were largely intended to meet drinking water needs. A decision on releasing water for irrigation to ayacut farmers would be taken after monitoring inflow patterns over the coming week, they said.
A year-on-year comparison showed that the reservoir had higher storage of 183.42 tmc ft on August 8, 2025. However, inflows then were much lower at around 71,000 cusecs, while outflows exceeded one lakh cusecs, indicating a different water management situation.
Officials said that if the present inflow trend continued, even at a slightly lower rate, for another week, the reservoir could move closer to its full capacity, providing a comfortable cushion for drinking water and irrigation requirements in the coming weeks.
