AP: Power Substations To Come Up In Every Assembly Constituency
Energy Minister Ravi Kumar said the state has initiated the construction of a 400 KV Gessolin (GIS) electricity sub-station, using advanced equipment at a cost of Rs.6,000 crore

Vijayawada: Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar has announced the establishment of a set of power stations in Krishna district with an investment of Rs.800 crore to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity to the public.
This strategic move aims to boost the state’s power distribution network and address the rising energy needs in both urban and rural areas, he said.
The minister, accompanied by Machilipatnam MP Vallabhaneni Bala Shoury and Penamaluru MLA Bode Prasad, inaugurated a 33/11kv outdoor electricity substation at the AP TIDCO Housing Colony in Vuyyuru on Thursday. The project involved an investment of Rs.4.36 crore.
Ravi Kumar said the ongoing Machilipatnam (Bandar) Port development demanded a robust and uninterrupted power supply to support upcoming industrial and logistical operations. Industrialists have urged the government to establish substations within the APIIC industrial corridors to ensure reliable power for industrial growth.
“As part of a long-term plan, substations will be established in every assembly constituency to cope with the 6 to 8 per cent annual increase in power consumption,” he said.
Ravi Kumar said the state has initiated the construction of a 400 KV Gessolin (GIS) electricity sub-station, using advanced equipment at a cost of Rs.6,000 crore.
Spread across 8 acres, this project is expected to be a game-changer in enhancing grid stability and connectivity. “Our state has great potential for renewable energy, especially through wind and solar, particularly in Rayalaseema and parts of Prakasam district,” the minister said, underlining the state’s thrust on clean energy.
He revealed that the government is ready to sanction 20 lakh solar connections under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, targeting 10,000 to 12,000 connections per assembly constituency.
The TD-led government, he noted, did not increase power tariffs. He attributed the current fuel and power purchase cost adjustment (FPPCA) charges to decisions taken by the previous YSRC government.
Ravi Kumar noted that the TD had handed over a surplus power scenario in 2019, and the state government was now spending Rs.10,000 crore annually to provide 24-hour electricity to households and 9-hour free power to farmers.
The event was attended by Vuyyuru municipal chairperson Vallabhaneni Satyanarayana, CPDCL SE Satyanandam, municipal commissioner Venkateswara Rao and others.
