Andhra Pradesh: PAAP Seeks Phased Rollout Of Class X Examination Reforms

NELLORE: The Parents Association of Andhra Pradesh (PAAP) has urged the state government to defer the proposed changes to the Class X examination pattern for the 2026-27 academic year and implement them in a phased manner beginning from Class VIII.
Welcoming the reforms based on the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 and NCERT-PARAKH recommendations, the association said the proposed changes aimed to promote conceptual understanding, creativity and analytical skills instead of rote learning.
However, PAAP expressed concern over the proposed implementation, stating that the reforms were being introduced without adequate teacher training, revised textbooks, model question papers or pilot testing.
The association said students accustomed to rote learning up to Class IX could face difficulties in adapting to analytical and open-ended questions in Class X. It also cautioned that rural students, with comparatively lower language proficiency and limited digital access, could be disproportionately affected, while the sudden shift might increase stress and anxiety among students.
PAAP president S. Narahari appealed to the government and education authorities to reconsider the implementation schedule and introduce the reforms gradually from Class VIII to ensure a smoother transition.
