Andhra Pradesh: Lokesh Asks Party Cadre To Prepare For Local Body Polls

Lokesh cautioned that failure to hold the elections would result in the stoppage of funds from the Finance Commission: Reports

VIJAYAWADA: Telugu Desam national working president and education minister Nara Lokesh has called upon party cadre to be prepared for the local body elections and ensure the election of NDA nominees.

At a breakfast meeting with ministers on Thursday, Lokesh said the local body elections would be completed by October and ruled out any possibility of this being deferred.

He said the state government was making efforts to hold the elections by resolving the pending court cases expeditiously. Elections would initially be held for municipal bodies, followed by rural local bodies, including ZPTCs, MPTCs and gram panchayats, he said.

Lokesh cautioned that failure to hold the elections would result in the stoppage of funds from the Finance Commission.

He called upon party leaders to propose a special programme to mark three years since the then leader of the opposition Chandrababu Naidu was arrested by the police on September 1 in cases which the party has described as false. He wanted the programme to highlight how Naidu overcame the challenges and was leading the state on the path of progress.

Lokesh also suggested that ministers resolve applications received for new pensions so that pensions could be sanctioned to every eligible person in the state.

Meanwhile, Lokesh received an invitation to attend the annual Brahmotsavams from September 14 to October 4 at the Kanipakam Sri Varasiddhi Vinayaka Swamy temple in Chittoor district.

Putthalapattu MLA Murali Mohan, endowments commissioner Ramachandra Mohan and temple chairman Surendra Babu called on Lokesh at his residence at Undavalli and extended the invitation. They also offered Vedaaseervadam and prasadam.
