Andhra Pradesh Launches Yoga Andhra, Month-Long Festival To Promote Wellness

The government has planned a structured approach to the month-long celebration.

Vijayawada:The Andhra Pradesh government has launched a month-long campaign called Yoga Andhra that will began on May 21 and will continue until June 21, culminating with International Yoga Day celebrations that will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Visakhapatnam.

The government has planned a structured approach to the month-long celebration. The first week will focus on district-level training, followed by mandal-level programmes in the second week and village-level initiatives in the third week. Special promotional activities will be organised in approximately 100 tourist areas across the state.

Special principal secretary (medical health and family welfare) M.T. Krishna Babu announced the initiative during the inaugural ceremony held on the banks of the Krishna River in Vijayawada.

The campaign aims to involve at least two crore people across the state in yoga practices, promoting physical and mental well-being as part of the government’s vision for a prosperous and healthy Andhra Pradesh.

“With the aim of making Indian heritage and ancient wealth accessible to everyone, we are organising special promotional programmes in Uruwada for a month under the guidance of the Chief Minister,” said Krishna Babu.

“These programmes will increase awareness about the benefits of yoga and encourage people to make yoga a part of their way of life throughout their lives,” he added.

The initiative includes a 45-minute common yoga protocol designed by experts, with training sessions being organised from village to district levels. A special app and portal have been created for registration and certificates will be provided to trained participants who can then educate others in their communities.

Guntur district incharge collector A. Bhargav Teja said various awareness programmes will be organised from the district-level to the village-level on the practice of yoga from May 21 to June 21, observing Yoga Month for a month.

Across the state, districts have enthusiastically launched the programme. In Srikakulam, district collector Swapnil Dinakar Pundkar inaugurated the curtain raiser yoga programme at Sri Suryanarayana Swamy Temple in Arasavalli.

In Visakhapatnam, public representatives and officials gathered at R.K. Beach for the inaugural event, where Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly government whips Vepada Chiranjeevi Rao and Gana Babu, along with City Mayor Peela Srinivas, district collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad and commissioner of police Shankhabrata Bagchi performed various yoga asanas to emphasise the importance of the programme.

In Vizianagaram, district collector Dr B.R. Ambedkar launched the month-long programme at the local Rajiv Sports Ground.

Home minister V. Anita conducted a thorough field inspection of Beach Road in Visakhapatnam, reviewing security arrangements in preparation for the Prime Minister’s visit on June 21. She made several suggestions to the district officials regarding security measures and directed them to work in close coordination, particularly in anticipation of the large crowds expected for the International Yoga Day event.

AYUSH director K. Dinesh Kumar emphasised the importance of incorporating yoga into daily life: “If we make yoga a part of our daily life, we will get better results in every work we do. We should change our lifestyle with yoga, get rid of stress and live a happy life.”
