Andhra Pradesh: IT Returns In AP Show 9% Growth

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Income Tax department has reported strong growth in the filer base, returns filed, and direct tax collections in Andhra Pradesh, reflecting the state’s expanding compliance and revenue strength.
This was stated on Monday by Suresh Battini, principal chief commissioner of Income Tax (AP & TG), Hyderabad. “The growth in collections and filer base demonstrates the effectiveness of outreach and compliance measures,” he told the media here.
According to official figures, the number of filers in AP rose from 25.99 lakh in 2023-24 to 28.70 lakh in 2024-25, representing a growth of 10.42 per cent. The number of returns filed also increased from 24.77 lakh to 26.98 lakh the same period, reflecting an 8.92 per cent rise.
This steady expansion highlights the widening tax net and improved participation of individuals and businesses in the formal economy.
Direct tax collections have mirrored this upward trend.
Andhra Pradesh recorded gross collections of ₹32,772.93 crores in 2025-26, with refunds amounting to ₹10,230.61 crore, resulting in net collections of ₹22,542.32 crores. In the current financial year up to July 17, gross collections stood at ₹9,043.54 crore, with refunds of ₹2,436.01 crore, leaving net collections at ₹6,607.53 crore. This represents a robust growth rate of 17 per cent compared to the previous year, indicating stronger compliance and higher revenue mobilisation.
Category-wise, corporate tax and income tax collections have shown resilience. In 2023-24, AP recorded corporate tax collections of ₹7,616.58 crore and income tax collections of ₹25,790.65 crore. The following year, corporate tax collections rose modestly to ₹7,768.59 crore, while income tax collections stood at ₹25,350.48 crore.
By 2025-26, corporate tax collections had climbed to ₹8,312.20 crore, while income tax collections were reported at ₹24,459.10 crore.
Suresh said,” With Andhra Pradesh continuing to expand its tax base, the state’s contribution to national revenue is expected to strengthen further in the coming years.”
