Andhra Pradesh HC Directs AP Government To File Counter Affidavit In Spurious Liquor Case

Senior counsel for the petitioner, Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy, argued that his client had been arrested only after filing the plea in court seeking a CBI inquiry: Reports

VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh High Court has directed the state government to file a counter affidavit with complete details in connection with a petition filed by former minister Jogi Ramesh seeking a CBI probe into the spurious liquor case.

A single-judge bench, headed by Justice Venkata Jyothirmai Pratapa, heard the case again on Wednesday. The petition, filed by YSR Congress senior leader and ex-minister Jogi Ramesh, sought a CBI investigation into the spurious liquor case, alleging that the ongoing state-level probe was being conducted in a biased manner.

Senior counsel for the petitioner, Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy, argued that his client had been arrested only after filing the plea in court seeking a CBI inquiry. He informed the bench that they had submitted an additional affidavit as directed during an earlier hearing.

Public prosecutor M. Lakshminarayana, representing the Special Investigation Team (SIT), informed the court that a counter affidavit would be filed on the issue of whether the petition was maintainable for hearing.

However, the court instructed the public prosecutor to submit a comprehensive counter affidavit addressing all issues raised by the petitioner in his plea and adjourned the hearing to November 26.
