Andhra Pradesh: GGH Blood Bank Gets ₹75 Lakh Upgrade From Alumni

VIJAYAWADA: NTR district collector Dr G. Lakshmisha on Saturday lauded the Siddhartha Medical College Alumni Association (SMCAA) for its contribution to strengthening healthcare services and urged more doctors, alumni and philanthropists to support government hospitals.
Inaugurating the renovated blood bank at Government General Hospital (GGH), upgraded with modern equipment with SMCAA support, Dr Lakshmisha said the association had made a valuable contribution to improving blood collection and storage facilities.
He praised SMCAA coordinator Dr N. Ammanna for his sustained social service and recalled the association’s support during the Covid-19 pandemic, including assistance in setting up oxygen plants at government hospitals and other relief initiatives.
The collector said the alumni had provided medical equipment worth nearly ₹75 lakh for the blood bank. The upgrade would improve blood collection, testing, separation and storage of blood components and ensure timely availability of quality blood to patients, he said.
Dr Ammanna said Siddhartha Medical College alumni had undertaken several initiatives to give back to society and would continue supporting the government healthcare system.
Dr Arun Mitra Kandra contributed ₹30 lakh, SMCAA North America ₹20 lakh and Dr Ammanna ₹20 lakh. Dr Samyuktha and Dr N. Rambabu donated `1 lakh each, while Dr A. Durgabhavani and Dr J. Karun Kumar Raju contributed ₹50,000 each and Dr Uma Ramani ₹10,000. Other alumni members also extended support.
The blood bank has been equipped with sterile connection devices, blood component monitors, donor couches, a platelet agitator and incubator, refrigerated centrifuge, ELISA washer and reader, gel-card centrifuge and incubator, microscopes, centrifuges, reagent refrigerator and coagulation analyser.
Siddhartha Medical College principal Dr A. Yedukondala Rao, GGH superintendent Dr G. Raghunandan, doctors, alumni members, hospital staff and donors attended.
