Andhra Pradesh: ATM Robbery In BK Samudram, Gang Robs ₹15 lakh

ANANTAPUR: An unidentified gang uprooted and took away an SBI ATM machine from its booth on the main road in Bukkarayasamudram mandal headquarters of this district in the early morning hours Wednesday.
They dumped the machine at a deserted field some 15km away, in Singanamala mandal, after removing from it a stock of about ₹15 lakh.
According to police, the gang entered the ATM bunk located close to Tadipathri Road and the BK Samudram police station.
They broke the glass panels and detached the machine from all signals and batteries. The gang fled from the spot with the ATM machine along with its batteries.
The bank staff and locals alerted the police over the incident on Wednesday morning. The police rushed to the spot along with a dog squad and inspected the scene. Cops examined CCTV footage from nearby establishments for clues to trace the culprits.
Within a few hours, cops located parts of the stolen ATM equipment from the outskirts of Akuledu village in Singanamala mandal.
A detailed examination of the recovered equipment has begun.
Anantapur SP P Jagadeesh inspected the spot and reviewed the modus operandi of the gang. Gangs from the northern states are believed to have staged several recent ATM robberies.
Police teams have alerted the toll plazas and check posts from the spot towards Chennai, Bengaluru etc and are investigating whether such gangs operate via unsuspecting trucks.
While SBI operates ATM centres across the district without security guards, while several private banks avail the help of guards from private security services even during nights. The BK Samudram ATM centre was closer to the police station but had no security.
