Andhra Pradesh: 15,000 Kg Of Puja Waste Collected From Ganesh Immersion Sites

VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has collected around 15,000 kg of puja waste from various Ganesh idol immersion points in the city, municipal commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra said.
Special sanitation teams have been deployed at the immersion points to collect and segregate flowers, puja materials and other waste generated during the immersion process. At Prakasam Barrage, two cranes have been arranged for idol immersion and 12 sanitation workers have been assigned to collect and segregate puja waste continuously.
Ten sanitation workers each have been deployed at Punnami Ghat and Bhavani Ghat. Flying squads are inspecting various immersion points to monitor sanitation and ensure proper management of puja waste, the commissioner said.
The civic body has also installed barricades near canals and is creating awareness among devotees against dumping puja waste into water bodies. Waste that enters the water is being removed periodically with the help of Truxor machines, he said.
The VMC is also focusing on recycling the collected floral waste. The flowers will be processed to manufacture products such as incense sticks and dhoop sticks, while other puja waste will be scientifically processed to produce organic manure.
Dhyanachandra appealed to devotees to hand over flowers and other puja waste to VMC sanitation personnel instead of dumping them in canals or water bodies. He urged citizens to cooperate with the civic body in maintaining cleanliness at immersion sites and protecting the environment.
