Anantapur: Red Sander Smugglers Attack Police, 1 Held

The police nabbed Govindan, one of the labourers reportedly engaged by the smugglers. Police also seized 26 logs of red sanders worth Rs.80 lakh.

Anantapur: Red sander smugglers and labourers hired by them attacked police carrying out combing operations in the Seshachalam forest near Kavalapalli in Sundupalli mandal of Annamayya district on Saturday.

Additional SP Venkatadri, the police team tried to catch smugglers and labourers from Tamil Nadu, who had entered a red sanders dumping centre at Kavalapalli. However, the smugglers fled into the deep forest while attacking the police party with stones.

However, the police nabbed Govindan, one of the labourers reportedly engaged by the smugglers. Police also seized 26 logs of red sanders worth ₹80 lakh.

Police and forest teams are searching for the remaining gang members who fled into the forest.
