Addressing the media, Anantapur SP P. Jagadish said the accused were Yadavalli Manju of Gadar Nagar and P. Ramadas of Siddaragadda in Ballary district, Karnataka. The two, close friends, were addicted to liquor, gambling and cricket betting, and had accumulated heavy debts.

Police seized gold jewellery worth ₹70 lakh, seven kg of silver ornaments and ₹1 lakh in cash from the accused.
