Anantapur Pocso Court Sentences Rape Accused to Life Imprisonment
The court directed the government to pay ₹5 lakh compensation to the survivor

ANANTAPUR: Special Posco Court in Anantapur on Friday has sentenced a man to life imprisonment after finding him guilty of raping a minor girl. Further, the court directed the government to pay ₹5 lakh compensation to the survivor.
According to police, Kuruba Lokesh of Kanekal mandal in Anantapur district sexually assaulted a minor girl of the same area about two years ago. Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother, Anantapur Women Police Station registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
Following an investigation supported by scientific and forensic evidence, police filed a charge sheet before the Special Pocso Court. During the trial, the court examined 15 witnesses.
Special Pocso Court Judge S. Chinababu pronounced the verdict and sentenced the accused to imprisonment for life. The court imposed a fine of ₹3,500 on the accused and directed the state government to provide ₹5 lakh compensation to the victim.
The investigation had initially been conducted by then Anantapur SDPO and Women Police Station in-charge DSP T.V.V. Pratap Kumar. Subsequently, Additional SP (Women Police Station) S. Mahaboob Basha pursued the case.
Anantapur SP P Jagadish has appreciated the investigating officers, public prosecutors and court monitoring staff for their coordinated efforts in securing the conviction. He said the verdict sends a strong message that crimes against minor girls will be dealt with sternly and that offenders will face severe punishment under the law.
