Nellore: State endowments minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy on Sunday called upon rural households to fully utilise the Prime Minister’s Surya Ghar scheme, saying it would help them save on electricity bills while also generating additional income.

Speaking at Maktapuram village in Sangam mandal, he said the government aims to make solar power easily accessible to every household, particularly in rural areas.

During his visit, Anam inaugurated newly constructed cement roads worth 63 lakh and laid the foundation stone for a gram panchayat building estimated to cost 32 lakh. He received a warm welcome from villagers and local leaders.

Explaining the Surya Ghar scheme, the minister said SC and ST beneficiaries are receiving free solar connections, while BC beneficiaries will receive Central government subsidies along with an additional `20,000 approved by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. He announced that 10,000 solar connections have been sanctioned for the Atmakur constituency and urged villagers to make use of the opportunity.

Highlighting the coalition government’s focus on village development, Anam said that over the past 18 months, several crore rupees have been spent on improving rural infrastructure. In Maktapuram alone, multiple development works were taken up in a single day.

He said welfare schemes are reaching eligible beneficiaries, including social pensions worth 1.33 crore for 209 villagers, financial assistance of 15,000 each to 11 auto drivers under the Auto Drivers Sevalo scheme, 27.30 lakh for 182 beneficiaries under the Talliki Vandanam scheme, and 66 lakh to farmers under the Annadata Sukhibhava scheme.

In Sangam mandal, 143 projects worth `12.96 crore have been sanctioned, the minister said.

He thanked Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan for sanctioning funds for road construction and announced `2.72 crore for the construction of Village Health Clinic buildings. He also assured that endowments department officials would complete pending works at the local Shiva temple.

Later, addressing the “Raitanna Meekosam” programme at the Atmakur Agricultural Market Committee, Anam highlighted efforts to restore agricultural market committees, cooperative societies and irrigation associations.

He assured farmers of full support from sowing to marketing of produce, noted abundant water availability in the Somasila and Kandaleru reservoirs, and said the Annadata Sukhibhava scheme and the Somasila High-Level Canal works are under way to strengthen irrigation.

The minister added that fertilisers and seeds are being supplied smoothly and that special action plans are in place to further develop the Atmakur Agricultural Market Committee to make agriculture a profitable livelihood.
